In Town For Homecoming With A Sweet Tooth?Penn State Football fans will want a scoop of Berkey Creamery's newest flavor - "White Out." The popcorn flavored ice cream with white chocolate chips pays homage to the Penn State tradition of wearing white at designated home football games. The next White Out is Sept. 29 against Ohio State.  "'White Out' has become a huge Penn State Athletics tradition, so it only made sense for us to help promote and complement their efforts," said Jim Brown, the Creamery's assistant manager, in a press statement. "We think this new flavor is going to be a touchdown with fans." The flavor is scooped at the Creamery and also sells in half-gallon containers and three-gallon tubs for purchase. The flavor is described as the perfect balance of  sweet and salty.

It joins the recently released "Brew and White" iced coffees, "Grilled Stickies" ice cream, "mini" ice cream cups, and a new line of ice cream pint flavors. The Penn State Berkey Creamery on campus is as much of a tradition as football and the Nittany Lion. It's where memories are made and scoops of cookie dough, bittersweet mint and Kenney Beany fill cones and bowls.  For more than 150 years the Creamery has been producing its own ice cream.

It was started in 1865 in the "College Barns" -- along with a blacksmith shop and a hayloft -- behind what is now Old Main, according to the Creamery's website. It is the largest university creamery in the United States and uses about 5.5 million pounds of milk annually, about two-thirds of which is from 225-cows at the University's Dairy Production Research Center, Brown said.
