Alpha Mu joined the fight for childhood cancer on Thon Weekend

As any Penn State student or graduate will tell you, THON is a once in a lifetime experience, and this year our brothers had the pleasure of participating for the first time as members of a fraternity. Gaining early access to the Bryce Jordan Center with other groups, a few of our brothers were able to secure a prime location right next to the stage where our letters would be held high and proud for the school to see. Throughout the weekend, our philanthropy chair and his THON committee were blown away by the dedication that the brothers had in staying through the wee hours of the night, and when other organizations began to thin out during these difficult hours it seemed as though Pi Kapp was just gaining energy.

Though our fraternity was not eligible for a THON family in our first year back on campus, we stood next to Sigma Kappa who was more than happy to share their THON child with us. Our brothers ended up on the big screen a few times as we threw beach balls and exchanged water gun fire with a few THON children on the floor. Needless to say, the weekend was a fun cap to our fundraising efforts. Come THON weekend, our total amounted to about $12,500, a number which we are proud of given our various other responsibilities this past fall, yet one that we hope to build upon as we look to pair with another organization for next year’s THON.

THON 2019 totals raised $10.6 million for fight against childhood cancer.
